For who is maternity/paternity leave? 

Maternity/paternity leave is for parents in the domestic labour market who are employees or self-employed. 

Birth, primary adoption or permanent foster care 

Each parent is entitled to 6 months and it is permitted to transfer up to 6 weeks to the other parent.  The entire entitlement in total is therefore 12 months. 

Employee 

"Parents are considered to be employees if they work in paid employment in other services in a minimum of 25% employment ratio each month. More information about employment and other examples which are regarded as participation in the domestic labour market can be found under “Payments from the Maternity/Paternity Leave Fund”.

Self-employed 

"Parents are considered to be self-employed individuals if they work in their own business, regardless of business type, to the extent that they themselves are required to pay social security contributions monthly, or on another regular basis. Parents are considered self-employed whether they declare income as calculated remuneration or work in their own company. More information about employment and other examples which are regarded as participation in the domestic labour market can be found under “Payments from the Maternity/Paternity Leave Fund”.
