Services provided to applicants for international protection has been transferred from The Directorate of Immigration to The Directorate of Labour. The amendments took effect on July 1st 2022.
13 employees were transferred from The Directorate of Immigration to The Directorate of Labour. The objective with this transfer is to guarantee the provision of coherent services, and to maintain knowledge and experience in this regard. The Directorate of Labour’s resources will be useful for this project, as the directorate has vast experience in providing service to individuals in various circumstances, as well as being a leader in information technology, finances, data analysis, employment services and counselling.
The amendments are in accordance with a presidential decree concerning the division of government affairs between ministries in The Cabinet of Iceland which took effect on February 1st 2022. Service provided to applicants for international protection, which previously appertained to The Ministry of Justice, were then transferred to The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour.
