The Icelandic labour market in July 2023

Summary

The unemployment rate in July was 2,8%, down from 2,9% in June.

There were on average 5.709 unemployed persons in July 2023.

 Unemployment by gender:

The unemployment rate for men in July was 2,7%, down from 2,8% in June. The unemployment rate for women was 2,9% in July, down from 3,0% in June.

 

Unemployment among young adults:

There were 535 young adults, aged 18-24 years unemployed in July 2023, up from 534 in June.

 Long-term unemployment

There were 1.239 long-term unemployed (unemployed longer than 12 months) at the end of July 2023. In June there were 1.317 long-term unemployed.

 

Foreign workers:

There were 172 work permits issued in July 2023.

There were 52 foreign service companies registered at The Directorate of Labour in July 2023, posting   359 workers.

There were 22 temporary work agencies registered at The Directorate of Labour in July 2023, with

692 workers.

 

Forecast for August 2023:

It is expected that the unemployment rate will not change much in August and is predicted to be between 2,7% and 2,9%.
