Board of The Directorate of Labour
The Minister of Social Affairs and Children appoints the board of The Directorate of Labour for a term of four years at a time, per Article 5 of Act no. 55/2006 on Labour Market Measures. The Icelandic Confederation of Labour (ASÍ) and The Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise (SA) nominate two main members and two alternates each, The Federation of State and Municipal Employees (BRSB), The Icelandic Confederation of University Graduates (BHM), The Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs and the Icelandic Association of Local Authorities each nominate one main member and one alternate to the board. The Minister appoints two main members to the Board without nomination, the Chairman and the Deputy Chairman.

According to Article 5 of the Act on Labour Market Measures, the Minister of Social Affairs and Children appoints the board of The Directorate of Labour for a term of four years at a time. Two board members shall be nominated by the Icelandic Confederation of Labour, one nominated by The Icelandic Confederation of University Graduates, one nominated by The Federation of State and Municipal Employees, one nominated by The Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, one nominated by the Icelandic Association of Local Authorities and two nominated by The Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise. An equal number of alternates shall be nominated. The Minister appoints two board members without nomination, one of whom shall be the Chairman of the board of the directorate, and the other the Deputy Chairman.
The Director General of The Directorate of Labour attends board meetings with freedom of speech and the right to make proposals.
The board of The Directorate of Labour shall monitor the directorate’s operations and activities. The board is intended, among other things, to discuss and approve the directorate’s work and budget plans, which the Director General submits no later than December for the next operating year. Furthermore, it shall submit annually proposals to the Board of the Unemployment Insurance Fund regarding funding for the payment of unemployment benefits and the administration of The Directorate of Labour for the fund in accordance with a service agreement. The board of the directorate shall also manage professional policymaking in the field of labour market measures and make the Minister of Social Affairs aware of the employment situation and the results of labour market measures in a report at the end of each year. The board shall consult regularly with the labour market councils, per Article 6, when assessing the employment situation in each region.

The Board of the Self-Employed Individuals’ Insurance Fund:
The Minister of Social Affairs and Children appoints the board of the Self-Employed Individuals’ Insurance Fund for four years at a time, per Article 8 of the Act on Unemployment Insurance, no. 54/2006.
