The Directorate of Labour offers two 100% grants for Icelandic group courses per year.
Jobseekers are not expected to pay for the courses themselves, and are only required to register directly with the selected schools. Please see the list of the selected schools below.*
Please be informed that only jobseekers who have an approved application for unemployment benefits are entitled to apply for Icelandic courses.

How do I register for an Icelandic course ?
Jobseekers need to find an Icelandic group course with one of the selected schools from the list and register directly with the school. It is important to inform the school that you are registered with the Directorate of Labour.
Jobseekers are not expected to pay for the courses themselves.
Can I register for any level of Icelandic course ?
Yes, jobseekers can choose any level of Icelandic group course.
Can I register for two Icelandic courses during the same semester ?
Yes, jobseekers can register for two courses during the same semester.
Is it possible to receive a grant for private Icelandic lessons ?
Yes, but the grant will not cover the full price of the private lessons.
It is possible to use the study grant for job related courses. The grant is 80.000 ISK per year, but never more than 75% of the total cost of the course.
